Day 01: Kalimpong - Siliguri -
Phuntsholing Drive from Kalimpong to
Siliguri. Met by the local representative at Siliguri and transferred
to Phuntsholing, the border town of Bhutan. This drive passes
through lush green tea gardens en route. Phuntsholing is the
fascinating mixture of Indian and Bhutanese, a perfect example of
mingling of people, culture and place.
Day 02: Phuntsholing - Thimphu
(179 KMS, 6 HRS) After breakfast drive
to Thimpu, the modern town of Bhutan, visiting Kharbandi Gompa, the
beautiful monastery situated in the garden of tropical plants and
flowers. Arrive Thimpu by lunchtime. Afternoon enjoy a tour of Thimpu,
which includes a visit to the National library, which holds a vast
collection of ancient Buddhist texts, manuscripts and printing blocks
for prayer flags. On a visit can see students at work producing
intricate designs cloth. Memorial Chorten, this beautiful stupa is
built in the memory of the third king of Bhutan, who is regarded as
the Father of Modern Bhutan. The paintings and statues inside the
monuments give a rare insight into Buddhist philosophy. Evening visit
to Handicrafts Emporium, which displays wide assortment of beautifully
hand-woven and crafted products. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimpu - Punakha /
Wangdi - Thimphu Morning in Thimpu,
visit to TASHICHHODZONG, The beautiful medieval fortress/monastery,
which houses most of the government offices and the Kings throne room.
Its also the summer residence of the chief abbot. Later drive to
Punkha across Dochula pass ( 3100m) Punakha served as the capitol of
Bhutan until 1955 and is still the winter seat of Je Khenpo, the chief
abbot. Also visit Punakha Dzong built in 17th century by Shabdrung
Ngawang Namgyal. This Dzong has played an important role in Bhutans
history. Later drive to Wangdiphodrang visiting Dzong and local
Market. Evening return to Thimpu. Overnight in Thimpu.
Day 04: Thimpu - Paro (60 KMS, 2 HRS)
Morning drive to Paro en route visiting Simtokha
Dzong, the oldest fortress of the Kingdom built in 1627. It now houses
school for Buddhist studies.
In Paro visit, TA DZONG; originally
built as a watchtower, it has been serving as the museum of the
country since 1967. It holds fascinating collection of arts, relics
and religious thangkha paintings. Pinpung Dzong, meaning Fortress
of the heap of jewels it has a long and fascinating history.
Kyichu Lhakahng, one of the oldest monasteries of the kingdom.
Drukgyel Dzong, built in 1647, by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal it was
destroyed by an accidental fire in 1951. The ruins, as stands today
still attract tourists. Overnight in Paro.
Day 05: Paro - Delhi/Calcutta
After early breakfast drive to the airport for
flight to Delhi/Calcutta
